Racing took place at the Quaboag Riders Motorcycle Club in Monson, Mass. The winners of each competition class are recognized as AMA national champions and are awarded AMA National No. 1 plates.

For Riffe of Ashland, Ky., it was a surprise to win the 2018 AMA Hillclimb Racer of the Year award. He started competing in hillclimb at 3 years old and was the 2010 AMA Youth Hillclimb Racer of the Year. Riffe won the 400cc Stock Class and the 250cc Class titles.

"This win means everything to me," he said. "My dad usually races with us  but he couldn't be here this weekend. I was going to be happy with top fives and top 10s. I didn't think I was going to take home two national titles and the AMA Hillclimb Racer of the Year award."

It was Brookshaw's second time being named the AMA Youth Hillclimb Racer of the Year. He also won the award in 2016. Brookshaw hales from Ellsworth, Wis., and is a second-generation racer. Brookshaw's father, Josh, is a former hillclimb competitor whose career ended due to, injury. The younger Brookshaw won the Mini Jr. Class and 65cc Class titles.

"It was a challenging weekend," he said. "The first jump was kind of hard and the walls were hard to climb up. I was not expecting to win this."

Wood of Bay City, Wis.,took the AMA Vet/Senior Hillclimb Racer of the Year. He has been hillclimb racing for more than 40 years

Wood said he has competed in about 20 AMA Hillclimb Grand Championship events. Wood won the Senior Class and Super Senior Class championships.

"It was a great weekend," he said. "The club grounds here are awesome and the people who put this event on are really top notch. I'd just like to thank my family for supporting me this weekend."
