LEXINGTON, Ohio — Off-road competitors Quinn Wentzel and Steve Harouff were named the 2018 AMA Off-Road Vintage Grand Champions Sunday after off-road competition had concluded at 2018 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring Royal Enfield.

The AMA Off-Road Vintage Grand Championship and AMA Off-Road Senior Vintage Grand Championship are based on cumulative points from the three vintage off-road events: hare scrambles, trials and motocross.

For Wentzel, it was his fourth time winning the AMA Off-Road Vintage Grand Championship. The Canfield, Ohio, resident also won the award in 2013, 2014 and 2017.

"It was a tough weekend," Wentzel said. "My low point of the weekend was motocross. I had won the first race and was leading the race when I stalled my bike. I was able to pull it together and win the trials competition to lock up the championship."

Wentzel was impressed with the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days event.

"It is a great event," he said. "The AMA does an awesome job. The weather could not have been better. This is one of my favorite events of the year."

It was Morgantown, W.Va., resident Harouff's first time winning the AMA Off-Road Senior Vintage Grand Championship.

"I grew up riding bicycles and mountain bike racing," he said. "As I am getting older the pedals are not as friendly as the motors. I switched over to motorcycles and started in trials. I just found a motocross bike last week. I only had one chance to ride it before this weekend."

For Harouff, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days was the event that got him into motorcycling and motorcycle competition.

"Great event this year," he said. "I have been coming probably ten years. I came as a spectator for the first few years. I saw the trials competition and decided I wanted to give it a try and progressed from there."

2018 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring Royal Enfield, concluded Sunday. The event took place at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
