Billionaire brothers propose Montana land swap
May 15, 2014
Two billionaire brothers from Texas have proposed a land swap with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management that could provide public access to about 60,000 acres in the Big Snowy Mountains and the area north of the Missouri River Breaks in Montana.
Farris and Dan Wilks, who have been buying up land in several western states, want to trade five parcels in Blaine County for 10 BLM parcels that are surrounded by the Wilkses’ holdings.
Placing the Wilkses’ land in the hands of the BLM would result in public access along two roads to about 60,000 acres of federal land that is currently inaccessible.
