The AMA has presented a number of special awards to amateur and youth dirt trackers at the 2013 AMA Dirt Track Grand Championships, which ran June 24-27 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill.

Jeffery Lowery won the 2013 AMA Dirt Track Horizon Award. AMA Horizon Awards are presented annually in dirt track, motocross and roadracing to the rider showing the most promise for success in the pro ranks. The dirt-track award recipient is selected each year based on performance at the AMA Racing Dirt Track Grand Championships.

Lowery, from Newark, Ohio, won AMA Grand Championships in the 251cc-500cc DTX class and the 450cc Modified classes.

Tommy Edwards from Newcastle, Australia, won the AMA Dirt Track Youth Award. Edwards won the 65cc Modified 7-11 and 65cc DTX 7-11 AMA Grand Championships.

Dallas Mayer from Carbondale, Ill., won the AMA Dirt Track Vet/Senior Award. Mayer took the AMA Grand Championship in the Super Senior 50+ class.

Aidan Roosevans from Troy, Ill., won the AMA Fast Brain Award. The AMA Fast Brain Award, sponsored for the fourth straight year by dirt-track tuning legend and AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Bill Werner and AMA Board of Directors Member Stan Simpson, recognizes a rider whose speed on the track is matched by stellar grades in the classroom. Roosevans finished second to Edwards for the two 65cc AMA Grand Championships and won individual discipline titles in the 65cc DTX short-track event and the 65cc Modified half-mile race.

Also of note is Bri Hazen from Abingdon, Ill., who won the Women's 250cc-Open Singles AMA Grand Championship, scoring a new set of GoldenTyre dirt-track tires from U.S. importer, AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer and multi-time AMA Grand National Champion Chris Carr.
