Rep. John Boehner (R-OH-08)
Mr. Boehner has been a previous cosponsor of the AMA’s health insurance anti-discrimination bill. The AMA looks forward to working with Mr. Boehner on important federal issues facing motorcyclists such as health care reform, public land use and motorcycle safety.
Rep. Leonard Boswell (D-IA-03)
Mr. Boswell is an active motorcyclist who fully understands the myriad issues important to the AMA. Boswell has signed a letter in support of a new crash causation study for motorcyclists as well as an increase in funding for motorized trails. He was also an original cosponsor of the AMA’s health insurance anti-discrimination bill in the 108th Congress.
Rep. Mike Burgess (R-TX-26)
Mr. Burgess sits on the prestigious Energy and Commerce Committee and is also Chairman of the Republican House Policy Committee’s Subcommittee of Health. Dr. Burgess was an original cosponsor of the AMA’s health insurance anti-discrimination bill that has been referred to his committee, and also signed a letter in support of a new crash causation study for motorcyclists.
Senator Susan Collins (R-ME)
Ms. Collins was the lead Republican sponsor in the Senate of the AMA’s health insurance anti-discrimination bill that passed the full Senate in 2004. She has re-introduced that legislation again in 2005 in the Senate and she has been instrumental in advocating that the bill get signed into law during the 109th Congress.
Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX-11)
Mr. Conaway is a freshman member of Congress representing a large district of West Texas. He has been an AMA member for many years, himself a former motocross racer. The AMA welcomes Mike to Washington, D.C. and looks forward to working with him and his staff during the 109th Congress.
Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI)
Mr. Feingold was the lead Democrat sponsor in the Senate of the AMA’s health insurance anti-discrimination bill that passed the full Senate in 2004. He has worked to re-introduce that legislation again in 2005 in the Senate and has been instrumental in advocating that the bill get signed into law during the 109th Congress.
Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO-06)
Mr. Graves sits on the important Transportation & Infrastructure Committee. He was a cosigner of a letter to the Committee expressing the urgent need for a new crash causation study for motorcyclists. Graves was also an original cosponsor of the AMA’s health insurance anti-discrimination bill in the 108th Congress.
Senator James Inhofe (R-OK)
Mr. Inhofe sits on the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee, which has jurisdiction over the six-year transportation bill process. The Senator has been supportive of language in favor of a new crash causation study for motorcyclists within the new six-year bill.
Rep. Thomas Petri (R-WI-06)
Mr. Petri has long supported motorcyclists as an influential member of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee. He has been supportive of language in favor of a new crash causation study for motorcyclists within the House version of the next six-year transportation bill. Petri was also an original cosponsor of the AMA’s health insurance anti-discrimination bill in the 108th Congress, as well as a lead advocate in favor of funding increases for motorized trails.
Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL-19)
Mr. Shimkus has been a staunch supporter of motorcyclists’ rights since his election in 1996, helping led the fight to stop the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) from lobbying states on the subject of mandatory helmet use. He also signed the letter in support of a new crash causation study for motorcyclists, was an original cosponsor of the AMA’s health insurance anti-discrimination bill, and also cosponsored the AMA-supported public lands’ access bill in the 108th Congress.
