Illinios lawmaker seeks lower ATV fees

May 15, 2014

Some ATV owners would be exempted from registration fees under a bill sponsored by state Sen. Dave Koehler (D-Peoria) that passed the Illinois Senate.

A 2012 law failed to differentiate between golf carts, vehicles used by people with disabilities and ATVs used in state and local parks and preserves. It also charged the same fee for all ATVs, failing to differentiate between adult and child-sized vehicles.

Koehler's bill would drop the $15 registration fee to $10 for vehicles with smaller than 75cc engines. It also provides exemptions for golf carts, mobility scooters and ATVs used by governments and farmers. The legislation went to the Illinois House for consideration.
