4th annual Monster Energy Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross wraps up two days of racing at Daytona International Speedway

DAYTONA (March 11, 2013) - Kicking off Daytona Bike week festivities, Sunday and Monday hosted nearly 1,000 entries at the historical Daytona International Speedway for the 4th Annual Monster Energy Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross, sanctioned by AMA. A full slate of amateur classes-ranging from 50cc all the way to Vet and Pro classes-hit the historic Daytona Supercross track just one day after the fastest pros in the world for two days of amateur racing. 
 
Following Saturday's Daytona Supercross by Honda, this event brought some of the sport's biggest industry names and sponsors to hang around and scout the up and coming talent of the amateur motocross circuit. Sunday morning started the weekend off with practice and heat races, while Monday crowned 32 champions and $3,200 in Motorcycle-Superstore.com Holeshot Awards on the historic grounds of Daytona International Speedway. The-Greatest-of-All-Time, Ricky Carmichael, was on site all weekend long, awarding the amateur champions and offering photo opportunities while playing host to Monday's podium celebrations.
 
The nearly perfect Florida weather made for ideal track conditions on the Daytona Supercross track and the exciting bar-to-bar racing followed suit with some of the biggest names of amateur racing in attendance. Florida's Jordan Bailey had a successful weekend in the Mini divisions, taking home a championship in the 85cc (9-13) class and fourth overall in Super Mini (12-16). Some of his biggest competition came from Brazilian native Enzo Lopes, who finished second and seventh places respectively, and Pennsylvania's Broc Papi went home with third and eighth places overall. Florida's Raymyller Alves topped a stacked field in the Super Mini (12-16) class, while Michigan's Joey Crown and Maryland's Tyler Kirschner each grabbed a podium finish in the class. 
 
The A/Pro Sport divisions also brought out some of the top amateur talent as Florida's very own RJ Hampshire grabbed the win in both 450 A/Pro Sport and College (17-24), also taking fourth in the 250 A/Pro Sport class. Other heavy hitters included Suzuki rider Jace Owen, who grabbed a pair of seconds in the A classes, Kawasaki Team Green's Cody Chisholm - who took third and fourth overall, and Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green's Thomas Covington, who finished the weekend with a championship in 250A/Pro Sport and third place finish in 450A/Pro Sport.

Yamaha rider Kaitlyn Morrow topped the Women's (14+) division, with Kylie Fasnacht and Mackenzie Tricker rounded out the highly contested podium battle. In the Girls (9-13) class, it was Florida's Jazzmyn Canfield out front after a close battle with North Carolina's Jordan Jarvis who finished second overall for the day, while Pennsylvania's Jamie Astudillo rounded out the podium in the Girls class.
 
Kawasaki Team Green riders dominated the Vet and Senior divisions with riders like John Grewe, Mike Treadwell and Earl May, but Suzuki rider Barry Carsten held his own with a win in the Senior A 40+ class and a pair of seconds in the 35+ and 45+ divisions. Grewe landed wins in both the 35+ and 45+ classes, while finishing atop the podium in the 40+ division. Treadwell went 1-2-3 in the 30+, 35+ and 40 and May finished the weekend with two fourths and a third amongst a highly competitive Vet class field.
