BARBERVILLE, Fla. — Reigning American Flat Track Twins Class Champion Jared Mees showed he hasn’t lost any pace over the off-season.

The Indian factory rider from Sebastian, Fla., won the All-Star Twins Class race at the second round of the AMA All Star National Flat Track Series, which took place on the half-mile track at Volusia Speedway Park on Sunday.

Mees handily won his heat race and took the victory despite a late race charge from Indian rider and Oxford, Pa., resident Brandon Robinson. Davis Fisher of Warren, Ore., rounded out the class podium on an Indian.

Racing at Volusia Speedway Park is nothing new for Mees.

“I’ve been coming to race at Barberville since I was on 80s back in the 1990s,” he said. “I feel like I’ve built a good fan base here, and I enjoy coming here. It’s a lot of fun, and it was a good day today.”

He was also happy to be back racing his Indian FTR750.

“We’ve tested a few times in the off-season,” he said. “This is my first race since last season, though.”

Another top performer at the event was Trevor Brunner, who hails from West Harrison, Ind. The Honda rider qualified for four main events, winning three of them.

“The track was dry earlier in the day, and we had to keep making changes to our suspension set up,” he said.

An amateur rider, Brunner scored a hard-fought victory in the All Star Singles Class race. He and two other riders, Jesse Janisch of Irving, Texas, and Fisher, broke away from the rest of the field and battled each other for the lead all race.

“I got a good start and just tried to be as smooth as possible,” he said. “I just focused on making no mistakes and I was able to pull off the win.”

According to a representative from series promoter Steve Nace Race Promotions, 195 entries in nine competition classes took part in the event.

Other notable riders to compete in the event were American Flat Track regulars Cory Texter and Daniel Bromley and reigning MotoAmerica Junior Cup Champion Alex Dumas.
