Deep in the heart of Dixie, the Kentuck ORV Trail in Munford, Alabama, has riding for everyone on wheels, whether the vehicle of choice is an ATV, a motorcycle or a mountain bicycle. Some of the trails have easy sections with gentle grades and sweeping turns and fairly smooth surfaces. Other trails are more difficult, with steeper grades, tight turns, rocks and obstacles. There are four separate trails totaling 23 miles of riding through the Alabama woods.
Kentuck ORV Trail is 61 miles east of Birmingham, Alabama, on Interstate-20. Take the Oxford exit (No. 185) and go south on Highway 21 for 2.7 miles. Turn left onto Buckhorn Road, which will T into McIntosh Road. Go left on McIntosh for a mile to Kentuck Road; turn right on Kentuck for an additional 1.5 miles, then take one last turn right on FR643 to the parking area.
Need more reasons to visit the area or need someone to ride with? The Cheaha Trail Riders are almost always there. And on the first weekend in April and November, the Cheaha Trail Riders holds its annual Family Fun Weekend, which have become very popular. The group also helps the U.S. Forest Service with its Adopt-A-Trail program, working to keep the trails open and maintained.
Another service ATVers perform on the trail system is called "Courtesy Patrol," to help inform and educate riders while giving feedback to the Forest Service. For more information on the Cheaha Trail Riders (a chartered ATVA club), call Glenn Myers at (256) 831-1935; or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
