The United States' top amateur flat track racers got back to racing Thursday at the 2018 AMA Flat Track Grand Championship, which continues Friday at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill.

After completing the first day of racing on the short track inside the fairgrounds' Multi-Purpose Arena, the competitors were kept off the half-mile track Wednesday due to wet track conditions and the threat of more precipitation.

By Thursday morning, the fairgrounds' half-mile pea gravel track had dried, and the racing was back underway. The day started out hot and hazy with overcast skies, light winds and occasional drops of rain moving in in the afternoon. Despite the occasional light precipitation, all heat races, semi-final races and main event races were completed.

The day's strongest performance belonged to Trent T. Lowe. The Honda rider from Guilford, Ind., took four wins on the day (450cc Open Singles, 450cc Modified, 251-500cc DTX, 450cc Open Modified). After the day's action was done, Lowe was happy with his results.

"It started out as a tough day," he said. "We had a rough start to the beginning of practice, but we made adjustments and nailed the set up for today."

The day's other star performer was Tom Drane. The Australian rider took three wins on the half mile in the 85cc Modified, 65cc DTX (7-11) and 85cc DTX (7-11) classes.
