Mike Lafferty returning to KTM, retiring after 2014

October 18, 2013

The following is an industry press release...

KTM Motorsports is proud to announce that Mike Lafferty (right) will race for the Factory FMF/KTM Off-Road Team for his final season before retiring at the end of 2014.

Lafferty began his professional career aboard KTM motorcycles nineteen years ago after signing his first contract with the late KTM President Rod Bush. “I had a great relationship with Rod and he really believed in me since the beginning. I can’t thank him enough for his support back then and for KTM for sticking behind me for the past 20 years,” stated Lafferty.

Throughout the past two decades, Lafferty has racked up 70 AMA National Enduro wins and is tied with Dick Burleson for the record of most National Enduro Championships, with both riders holding 8 titles. Lafferty switched to the Husaberg brand four years ago after KTM acquired the brand and needed a solid off-road ambassador to help gain ground in the off-road segment.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed racing for Husaberg the past few years, but I always knew, I wanted my 20th and final year of racing to be on KTM,” reported Lafferty. “Luckily, KTM agreed and I am thankful for the opportunity to spend one more year aboard the factory team.”

Factory FMF/KTM Team Manager, Antti Kallonen, remarked, “I’m looking forward to Mike’s return to KTM as a member of our factory team line-up. As it is Mike’s last year racing full-time, it gives great motivation to me and our entire team to work hard and help him achieve the goals he has set for himself in his final retirement year.”
