Osborne to race AMSOIL Honda at International Six Days of Enduro

August 21, 2013

The following is an industry press release...

SUPERIOR, Wis. (Aug. 21) - Zach Osborne has been selected to ride the AMSOIL/Factory Connection Honda at the International Six Days of Enduro 2013 on Sept 30-Oct. 5 in Sardinia, Italy.

The prestigious event is celebrating 100 years of racing on the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, and competitors from across the world will compete.

"I think it's going to be a good event for me," Osborne said. "It's my first trip to Six Days, but I'm really pumped to represent the U.S. I just want to do my best.

"AMSOIL has really stepped up to get me there. I'll be representing America and am looking forward to a great result.

Osborne will be part of the six-man U.S. World Trophy Team and will be one of 31 American riders competing.

Osborne will head to Italy in late September after wrapping up a solid season on the GEICO Honda in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship series. With one race remaining in the outdoor season, the 24-year-old is fifth in the 250cc standings.

Osborne will be competing in the E1 class, which features 100cc to 125cc two-stroke and 175cc to 250cc four-stroke motorcycles, a grueling test of man and machine that entails more than 155 miles of riding on each of the six days.

There will be four time checks and six "special tests" each day, with daily winners, team winners, country winners, and an overall winner. The overall winner is the rider with the smallest cumulative time over the six days of racing, much like the Tour de France.

"The race part is about an hour, hour and a half each day," Osborne said, "but you're actually on the bike six or seven hours."

Plus, Osborne will have to do any maintenance and repairs to the bike himself as he races through the Sardinia countryside and through 10 municipalities on the island.

"We have to do all the bike work, so I've been working hard on that," Osborne said. "We only have a limited amount of time every day to change both tires, oil, filter, and anything else that needs to be done to the bike. I've been working hard on getting my tire-change times down and things like that."

Osborne spent two and a half years racing in Europe, including some time racing in Italy. He went overseas in 2008 after injuries kept him out of a ride in the United States, and he rebuilt his career in Europe before returning to the U.S. with a vengeance aboard his GEICO Honda.

"It was a great experience for me," Osborne said. "It got my career back on track, so that was time well spent."

Osborne was selected for the team in June by the AMA.

"Going back to Europe is going to be cool," Osborne said. "I haven't been all year, so I hope to make some time to see friends. I've never been to Sardinia but I've been to Italy, so I kind of know what I'm getting into. I'm really looking forward to it."
