Amateur and youth dirt trackers at the 2013 AMA Dirt Track Grand Championships put the finishing touches on the event with a doubleheader short-track on Thursday, June 27, at the Illinois State
Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill.
With the mile portion of the competition rained out -- as well as a would-be replacement TT that evening -- an extra short-track race was added for the amateur riders who missed out on the Wednesday's racing.
Jeffery Lowery, Brandon Price, Aidan Brown, Tommy Edwards, Dallas Mayer and others continued to stand out among the high level of competition at the event.
The AMA Dirt Track Grand Championships crown amateur and youth champions
in individual dirt-track disciplines, including half-mile, TT and
short-track events. Amateur racers also compete in mile events. At the
end of the event, the most-outstanding amateur racer is awarded the AMA
Dirt Track Horizon Award, presented to the racer demonstrating a
readiness for success at the pro level.
