Lane Baird: 2012 70 single speed AMA ATV Nationals champion
March 18, 2013
Lane Baird is a 10-year-old racer from Sturgis, Ky. In 2012, Baird raced in the AMA ATV Motocross National Championship Series and won the 70 Single Speed championship. He also finished fifth in the 70 Modified class.
"My toughest competition was in the 70 Modified class because I was one of the youngest competitors and I raced the shifter competition with a single-speed bike," Baird explained.
Baird started racing at age 4 and has won two national championships and three local championships in the past six years.
For 2013, Baird will be running the 70 Modified class as well as the 70 Automatic class. Baird also plans on racing this series for the next few years, until he decides to try different types of racing, such as side-by-side cars or trophy trucks.
"When I am not racing, I like riding my bike, running cross country, and hunting," Baird said.
"I have several new sponsors this year that I would like to thank. Bill Baird Motorsports, Saturn, Fox Shox, Janssen Motorsports, Western Powersports, Fly Racing, Renthal, Goldspeed, GPS Offroad products, Works Connection, Quad Tech, Streamline performance, Performance Breaking, and Motul."
"This year I have a new mechanic, Casey Greek, the 2011 Mechanic of the Year, joining my team. This will be an exciting year as I move into the modified class full time and to a shifter."
