Riders on trials bicycles and trials motorcycles showed fans ultimate balance and coordination when they hopped up on metal boxes several feet in the air and landed only with the back tire during a demonstration Saturday, July 9 at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days.
Eighteen-year-old Kylee Sweetin of Oregon City, Ore., competes in the NATC/AMA U.S. National MotoTrial Championship Series and was a rider in the show.
“This is my first year doing the show here at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days,” Sweetin said. “It’s fun at the end of the season. It’s not that serious, and we get to show people what trials is all about.”
The audience seemed impressed, applauding several times throughout the show of skills by the riders who did wheelies in circles, jumped over fans laying on the ground and performed maneuvers that only experienced trials riders could execute, all while never putting a foot on the ground.
“They’re crazy!” said Woody Lear of York, Pa. “It’s amazing -- It really is. They have such balance.”
Lear’s friend, Craig Stinson, said the riders have “Mad skills!”
The trials exhibition–performed three times on Friday, July 8 and Saturday, July 9–is part of AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, which concludes on Sunday, July 10.
