With the Southern California weather heating up, round three of the AMA West Hare Scrambles in Gorman at the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA) and Quail Canyon MX Park provided ideal racing weather. The Prospectors Motorcycle Club of historic District 37 once again hosted a top notch event, ensuring a smooth race weekend to complement the fast paced racing that took place.
In preparing the course, the Prospectors were sure that the Youth Mini and Quad course would enjoy a smooth yet fun 6-mile loop. Bright and early Saturday morning, the Pee Wee 50cc class kicked off with an overall win from Nick Vasquez after a nice battle with 2nd place Waylon Honnold, while Damian Padron rounded off the podium.
Race 2 saw the 65cc, Girls, & Jr. Girls jump off the ZipTy Starting Line. A huge lead made by NHHA regular, Lane Forbes, led to an impressive 1st overall, while District 37's up and coming Laci Olivas made substantial time on her class to finish a close 2nd overall. Following Olivas through the finish, District 36's own rising star Ava Silvestri finished in 3rd.
The Big Wheel race saw a not at all surprising overall win from Mason Matthies. Meanwhile, Cody Kurtz and Bradley East battled all race long for 2nd and 3rd overall. This race was definitely action packed, and once again proved to be the perfect learning grounds for the future of off-road Hare Scrambles champions.
To conclude the day, the ATV's race on a 6-mile course through the Gorman hills. Over the duration of nearly two-hours, Jose Torres, Colt Brinkerhoff and Howard Tande raced with intense focus for the top 3 podium positions.
Sunday started off with Women and all Beginner classes. A dominate force in women's off-road racing, Sharon Mowell took 1st overall in the Women’s class with 30 minutes as her fastest lap time! Mowell battled around in top 3 overall, but ultimately ended up allowing Tyler Knutzman to take 1st overall and Matthew Tucker to take 2nd overall.
The main feature of the day would see the Pro, Pro 250 and Experts, with classes full of commendable competition. In the Pro 250 class, Cole Canatser left the weekend with 1st in class, with Jordan Gamboa only a few minutes behind in 2nd. And to fill the final podium spot, JT Baker took home 3rd in class behind Gamboa.
The Pro class would see Purvines DA8 Yamaha Racing's Nick Burson hold a huge lead on his class the entire race, earning himself 1st overall. Beta rider, Max Gerston and Purvines rider, Axel Pearson were not too far spaced from one another. Gerston and Pearson held a close race with a well deserved podium for the weekend making for another solid round of AMA West Hare Scramble racing!
