LEXINGTON, Ohio — Brent Hahn from Broadview Heights, Ohio, took first place on a Yamaha TTR125 in the 125cc main event at the AMA Pit Bike Race on Friday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course during AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring Riders of Kawasaki.

“It’s an awesome outlet," Hahn said of the event. "You can go out and have fun with your buddies and play around in your back yard.
“Pit bike racing has the same intensity as a big bike race, but you’re just on a little bike," he said. "You’re giggling the whole time you’re out there.”
Dozens of riders competed in the second running of the Pit Bike Race.
There also was pit bike racing in 50cc and 110cc classes. About 40 racers in all competed in the AMA Pit Bike Race.
The riders put on a good show for the hundreds of spectators who lined the track to watch the small bikes race around the infield of the world-class road race course.

Pit bike racer Mark Busch of Hackettstown, Pa., said that the Pit Bike Race is one of his favorite events during AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days.
“It’s a competitive but fun environment,” Busch said. “Everything from the day is winding down, I can come out here and throw some elbows with my buddies and just chill out and watch everyone have an old fashioned good time.”
Most pit bikes are eligible for one of the three classes, although some models are more competitive than others. Racers must be AMA members and must be wearing the proper safety gear.
Travis Tackett decided to borrow his friend’s TTR110 just so that he could get involved in the fun.
“I didn’t decide until right before sign up closed that I was going to do this,” Tackett said. “But that’s what’s fun about this kind of stuff. It’s not planned, and you can just either go win or look like a fool out there like I’m going to on this little bike.”
Hahn said everyone should try the AMA Pit Bike Race.
“Go out and pick up a bike, sign up for the AMA and come out here and do it," he said. "You come out here with your best friends and have a great time, and, hell, you might even get a trophy."
Racing, entertainment and more continue through Sunday, July 9, at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring Riders of Kawasaki, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. For a full schedule, visit www.amavintagemotorcycledays.com.
