PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The 2017 AMA Dirt Track Grand Championship is scheduled for July 1-4 at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds in Du Quoin, Ill.
This year's event features Half Mile, Youth TT, Amateur TT and Indoor Short Track events.

"The Du Quoin State Fairgrounds is the perfect setting for the AMA Dirt Track Grand Championship, where families can spend four days on a dirt-track vacation," said AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant. "Every day features top-notch competition, with racers vying to claim AMA National No. 1 plates."
The 2017 event schedule includes:
- Saturday, July 1: Half Mile
- Sunday, July 2: Amateur TT
- Monday, July 3: Youth TT
- Tuesday, July 4: Indoor Short Track
To help alleviate the financial burden on competitors, there will be no Mile event this year.
“Under AMA rules, only amateur racers can compete on the Mile,” Saillant said. “When we considered the added financial burden to these racers, wear and tear on their equipment, the additional cost in equipment needed, plus the costs associated to prepare and maintain the track, we decided to eliminate the Mile this year.”
Online pre-entry opens March 13 at www.americanmotorcyclist.com/Racing/Story/ama-dirt-track-grand-championship and closes June 26. Pre-entry is $70 per class/per event. Onsite registration is $80 per class/per event.
AMA National No. 1 plates are awarded to the racers in each class who have the highest point totals across all four disciplines of dirt track racing.
Awards are also given for AMA Youth Dirt Track Racer of the Year and AMA Vet/Senior Dirt Track Racer of the Year.
Additionally, racers compete for the AMA Dirt Track Horizon Award, which honors an amateur racer poised for success at the pro level.
The AMA Fast Brain Award is bestowed upon a racer based upon his or her performance at the event, as well as official school transcripts supplied at the time of application. Applications are available at www.americanmotorcyclist.com.
Competitors at the AMA Dirt Track Grand Championship ride traditional dirt track motorcycles as well as DTX motorcycles, the latter beginning as stock motocross bikes that are then fitted with dirt track tires, suspension and undergo other modifications.
Daily pit passes are $15 for racers of all ages. Spectator pit passes for those 13 and older are $15. Spectating youth ages 4 to 12 are $10. Ages 3 and younger are free.
Full-week pit pass packages are $50 for all racers and spectators ages 13 and older. Spectating youth ages 4 to 12 are $25 each.
