The second and final day of the 2016 AMA Road Race Grand Championships at Road America saw 10 more AMA No. 1 plates awarded and four special awards presented to the victors of five races.
Jody Barry of Lake In The Hills, Ill., secured the AMA Road Race Horizon Award thanks to his performance this weekend. Barry saw the top step of the podium twice today with wins in Expert AMA Moto 2 and Expert AMA SuperBike 600. On Saturday, he captured the win in Expert AMA SuperSport 600 and took first in the AMA-sanctioned ASRA Team Challenge race (a 50 lap, three-hour endurance race), riding solo in the GTU class aboard a Yamaha R6 he’d raced only one weekend previously.
Bailey Cox from Martinsburg, W.Va., mirrored Barry’s AMA finishes in the amateur classes -- winning Amateur AMA SuperSport 600, Amateur AMA Moto 2, and Amateur AMA SuperBike 600. This made him the front-runner for the AMA Novice Road Racer of the Year.
Tom Girard’s wins in Expert AMA SuperBike 1000 and Expert AMA Formula 40 meant he took home the AMA Vet/Senior Road Racer of the Year honors to Nashotah, Wis.
Nate Minster of Oak Grove, Minn., was awarded the AMA Youth Road Racer of the Year Award for his two podium finishes with his KTM 390.
Winners in the other classes were:
- Victor Baranovici - Amateur AMA SuperBike 1000
- Kevin VanEngen - Expert AMA SuperBike Lightweight Twins
- Tim Koebert - Amateur AMA Superbike Lightweight Twins
- Matthew Craska - Amateur AMA Formula 40
