Malcolm Smith, an AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend and 2019 AMA Dud Perkins Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, will be honored at The Quail Motorcycle Gathering, a Peninsula Hotels Signature Motoring Event.
The accomplished off-road racer and star of the iconic motorcycle documentary, “On Any Sunday,” will be recognized as the 2019 Legend of the Sport at the event, which takes place at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, Calif., on May 4.
“It’s an incredible honor to be named the 2019 Legend of the Sport,” Smith said in a press release. “The Quail Motorcycle Gathering is a truly world-class event, and being spotlighted there is one of the highlights of my career.”
Smith was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998 and was declared a Hall of Fame Legend in 2012. He is known for his accomplishments in the Baja 1000 and for his gold medal-winning rides in the International Six Day Enduro competitions. Starring alongside Hollywood actor Steve McQueen in “On Any Sunday,”, Smith played a major role in the film that helped increase the popularity of off-road motorcycling in America.
The Quail Motorcycle Gathering features a variety of activities for people of all ages to enjoy. Guests can indulge in farm-to-table Mexican cuisine and goods from vendors. Children, families and pets are welcome.
